Libraries – Where the world memory is stored… and so much more…

Not only do they possess an incredible wealth of knowledge, libraries also hold secrets of ancient history, modern happenings, wondrous architecture, marvelous treasures, food journeys, traditions and cultural evolution, and so much more.

The oldest library in the world (and not to forget also the oldest operating university in the world) is Al-Qarawiyyin Library in Morocco, founded 859 AD.

One of the oldest libraries in Italy, with over 120,000 prints and around 15,000 of manuscripts, papyri, and other documents to delve into is Michaelangelo’s Laurentian Library in Florence. This library is one of Michelangelo’s magnificent creations. Founded by Pope Clement VII, the library building is said to be one of Michaelangelo’s masterpieces. However, the building was opened 7 years after his death in 1571 and was left unfinished.

On the other hand, there are libraries of a different kind… magic ones… usually explicitly magical or infused with magic. These libraries tend to be small and hidden in a remote area. They usually contain dangerous and forbidden spells, dangerously supernatural Spell Books and priceless Ancient Artifacts. Because all of these things kept in these libraries are valuable – and it would be disastrous if these items were to fall into the wrong hands – the magical libraries are usually almost impossible to find without a special map, not to mention them being well-guarded. That is why those libraries are often home to monsters, creatures and Guardians – Magic Librarians that are there to protect the library with their lives and with all the magic they possess.

Fun facts

It is believed that every magic wand chooses the wizard or the witch. Wands seem to be cognitive, but also sentient instruments, able to detect one’s skills, character, needs, weaknesses, ambitions and potential. A wizard or witch may choose to buy a wand that hasn’t chosen them, but they can’t expect it to function properly.

It was Charles Perrault who first introduced the glass slippers to the Cinderella story in 1697’s “Cendrillon”. Other, older versions have found the heroine wearing a magic ring or magic gold, silver or fur slippers. According to his story, her shoes were very tiny, actually size 34.

The curse “Avada Kedavra” (used in Harry Potter books and movies) actually means “I will destroy you as I speak”.

Once upon a time…

…when the world was ruled by magic and people lived in prosperity and peace with all magical beings, a group of evil, ruthless wizards tried to steal the most magical object of all – a talisman so powerful that its owner can shake the order of the world or even the whole Universe. Our Universe, but also those yet unknown to us. Fortunately, the evil wizards were captured, their souls were imprisoned in a magical and extremely well-kept library as punishment and the talisman itself was hidden deep deep among dusty, hundreds of years old spellbooks. But, legend has it that every 1000 years the magical prison opens its doors and allows its prisoners 60 minutes of freedom, because even the strongest curses sometimes take a little time to “recharge their batteries”.

This is your chance to return to our world, and if you find the magical talisman, you will become the most powerful wizards and rule the whole world. But, beware – when it comes to magic, nothing is as it seems.
